Writer's Block: Book based
bookboy
Is there a book you really loved that was subsequently turned into a movie? Did it live up to your expectations? Why or why not?
"Six Days of the Condor". They called the movie "Three Days of the Condor" for some reason, but it was very good.

I have this theory that you're more likely to make a great movie if you base it on a mediocre book. The things that make books great aren't the same things that make movies great.

But the movie The Innocents, based on Henry James' The Turn of the Screw, is one example where I loved both book and movie.

The 1969 movie version of They Shoot Horses Don't They? is another one, although in that case the movie is even better than the book.

I can think of loads of examples where movies where much much better than the books they were based on.
